About IUPUI

A Leader in Education

U.S. News and World Report recently ranked IUPUI as 7th among 77 colleges and universities across the country that were singled out as schools that have recently made the "most promising and innovative changes in academics, faculty, students, campus, or facilities."  IUPUI faculty are among the world’s leading researchers in the life sciences and the liberal arts; in the professions of medicine, dentistry, law, business, nursing, education, journalism, and social work; and in interdisciplinary collaborations on studies in philanthropy, urban policy, the environment, biomedical engineering, cancer research, informatics, and more.

IUPUI offers a distinctive range of bachelor’s master’s, professional, and doctoral degrees in more than 200 undergraduate and graduate majors and students may choose from more than 10,000 regularly offered classes. The campus ranks among the top 20 in the country in the number of first professional degrees it confers, among the top seven in the number of health-related degrees, and has one of the most sophisticated libraries in the state with respect to electronic information systems and resources.

A Commitment to Service

Civic engagement, which includes involving students in service learning, internships, and community-focused undergraduate research with faculty, is one of three primary elements of IUPUI’s mission.

IUPUI has been named to the national President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll and has been designated as 1 of 25 urban institutions called “Saviors of our Cities.” The IU School of Medicine’s AMPATH program, a model AIDS treatment program in Kenya, was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006.

A Dynamic Campus

Hundreds of events from lectures to sporting events to art exhibitions are available each year on campus. With more than 300 student organizations, whether you’re interested in being social, learning more about your future profession, furthering a hobby, or Greek life, student organizations provide a great way to meet others and have fun.

The Urban Advantage

Indianapolis, the third largest city in the Midwest, is the economic and governmental center of Indiana. Our world-class campus is located within blocks of government offices, Fortune 500 companies, nonprofit organizations, professional and amateur sports, theatre, museums, and restaurants. From jobs to internships to real-world laboratory, Indianapolis offers a myriad of opportunities for IUPUI students to expand and supplement their classroom learning and professional development.
