University Highlights

IUPUI makes an impact every day in Indianapolis, statewide, across the United States, and around the globe by:

  • Being home to the only professional medical and dental schools in the state, the largest multi-discipline nursing school in the nation, and the only professionally accredited art school in Indiana.
  • Educating more than 30,000 students, translating research into practical applications, and strengthening communities and their economies.
  • Turning research into business. The IU Emerging Technologies Center has housed more than 30 start-up companies, creating more than 300 new jobs for Hoosiers.
  • Leading curriculum development for industry needs. New degree programs include the nation's first four-year degree in motorsports engineering, and Indiana's first forensic science degree.
  • Encouraging students to learn by doing. The IUPUI RISE to the Challenge Initiative encourages students to augment their classroom curriculum with research projects, international study, volunteer projects, and internships.
  • Serving the community. Each year, more than 2,800 IUPUI students and staff volunteer at nearly 300 different community agencies and schools, donating more than 53,000 hours of service as neighborhood clean-up crews, tutors, mentors, home-building teams, and other workers.
  • Offering nationally top-ranked programs. Our nursing, law, and public affairs programs are ranked among the best in the country.
  • Valuing diversity. The Purdue School of Engineering and Technology is first in the nation for engineering technology bachelor's degrees awarded to women.
  • Providing the health care that Hoosiers depend on. IUPUI has educated half of Indiana's physicians, 85 percent of its dentists, and similar percentages of other health professionals.
  • Being a catalyst for "brain gain" within the state. More than two-thirds of IUPUI graduates remain in Indiana, bringing cutting-edge knowledge and skills to the state's workforce.
