Bepko Scholars have demonstrated their commitment to scholarship and service through the following endeavors:

Academics, Research, and Study Abroad

  • Routinely enrolling in graduate-level course work as early as the sophomore year.
  • Being recipients of Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program travel grants and participants in the Summer Research Opportunities Program as well as school, departmental, and other research programs, many of which are available through the IU School of Medicine
  • Holding summer research appointments at universities across the country including the University of Rochester, the University of Kentucky, the University of Washington-Seattle, Harvard University, and Carnegie-Mellon University.
  • Participating in study abroad programs in Italy, France, Spain, Scotland, England, Germany, and Poland.
  • Completing graduation requirements in as little as two and half to three years.   
  • Routinely named among the Top 100 Students at IUPUI each spring and as recipients of such awards as the Governor's Award for Tomorrow's Leaders, the Chancellor's Scholar for Outstanding Undergraduate Research, and the Chancellor's Scholar for the School of Science.
  • Receiving prestigious grants and scholarships such as University Fellowships and National Science Foundation multi-year grants.

Campus and Community Life 

  • Serving as Resident Assistants in campus housing and as Campus Ambassadors for schools across the campus as well as for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
  • Establishment of academic and service-oriented fraternity.
  • Assisting in the development of student organizations including Honors Club and serving in leadership roles in a variety of campus organizations and boards
  • Serving as OTEAM, First Year Seminar, and Math Assistance Center Mentors as well as Peer-Led Team Learning recitation leaders in Chemistry and as Bepko Learning Center tutors.
  • Attending leadership development seminars and other national and international conferences, in some instances serving as panelists representing IUPUI and in others receiving financial support from Undergraduate Student Government.
  • Being elected to leadership positions in Undergraduate Student Government.

 Civic Engagement 

  • Assuming leadership roles for such endeavors as College Mentors for Kids-IUPUI as well as the mentoring program at the Learning Center at Cripus-Attucks.
  • Developing of a flag-football coaching program at IndyMet Schools One and Two and taking the team to the state charter-school championship.
  • Serving as assistant cheerleading coach for middle school students in the Indianapolis Public School system.
  • Volunteering as tutors for patients in Riley Children’s Hospital and in other roles at various Clarian Hospitals and Ronald McDonald House.
  • Completing internships with Indiana State Government leaders and participating in the Washington Leadership Program.
